Dr. Ackley’s Message . . .

THE NEW WEBSITE
It’s here! The new and improved North Lake School website is ready for your visit. It reflects all the elements that you asked for and more . . . The school website works especially well in your mobile device and we welcome your input. Please let us know what you think today with an email to me:  acklie@northlakeschool.org

MORE NEW STAFF TO MEET
An interventionist teacher supports student learning by providing targeted instruction. This instruction supports regular education classes in the content areas of literacy and mathematics. Mrs. Haase is providing intervention in grades K-4 and Mrs. Minor works with grades 5-8. Mrs. Haase likes to go for long walks, paddleboard, read romantic comedies, play pickleball, and watch sports (especially basketball coached by her husband and played by her children). Mrs. Minor’s favorite season is winter and she loves to downhill ski. She is active with the ski patrol and can be recognized by her snowflake necklace!

7-8 ELECTIVES
The middle school schedule is a work of art and contains many complexities. With that said, switching of electives is not an option this school year. Seventh and eighth grade students need to stay in the course with their selected electives. Please let me know how I can help if challenges or concerns arise in any classes. Enjoy!

ACHIEVING  OUTSIDE OF NLS
Markus Hull, 4th grade, joined a fencing club over the summer and has been enjoying the opportunity of taking lessons from 3-time Olympian Abbas Fadel. Keep up the good work, Markus, get more touches and ring that bell!

Also *new* this school year, students in kindergarten to 4th grade will receive marks from the following scale:

4 – consistently exceeds expectations; demonstrates in-depth understanding
3 – consistently meets expectations; demonstrates grade level understanding
2 – partially meets expectations; demonstrates some understanding
1 – does not meet expectations; demonstrates limited understanding

Please reach out to me or your student’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

Counseling Corner

Hello North Lake families!
I wanted to share some of my favorite resources with you. Bookmark this one and keep it for when and if you need it!

Gals Institute:  Mental health clinic that will do appointments here at school. This is convenient and allows for kids to get the support they need in a convenient way that minimizes the need to miss school for an appointment (262-337-9770).

Healing Hearts:  FREE support groups for children and teens who are navigating their grief journey after a loss.

Common Sense Media:  Provides reviews for games, books, movies, TV shows and podcasts. If your child is wanting to watch something, check it out here for recommendations about appropriateness or what to be aware of.

Screenagers:  Provides so many parent resources centered around technology use.

As always, please let me know if there are any ways that I can support your child!

Take care-

Leadership News

It was fun to see everyone get in the spirit and support the message taught during Red Ribbon Week!

Red Ribbon Week

Spirit Wear:  Please let Mrs. Lesch know if you bought your spirit wear as a gift for your child. We’ll get in touch with you to deliver it straight to you instead of sending it home with your child.

Next Spirit Day:  North Lake and Arrowhead Spirit Wear on November 22nd.
